Endlich gibt es wieder ein Video / Finally we finished another video:

Anfang Juli sind Joel’s Eltern fuer eine Woche gekommen und sie haben das erste Mal Emily kennengelernt. Dieser Besuch galt fast nur den Enkelkindern (und nebensaechlich auch uns ☺). Sie hatten ein bisschen Zeit die spanische Kultur kennenzulernen mit einem Besuch in Cadiz, einer Flamenco- & Pferdeshow. Wir hatten eine sehr schoene Zeit zusammen.

Nachdem die Ahlgrims wieder weg waren, ging bei uns der Stress los, denn wir sind nochmal in ein anderes Haus auf dem Base umgezogen, da wir ein riesen Problem mit Ameisen im Haus (im Gewuerzschrank, Geschirr, selbst im Kuehlschrank etc…) hatten. Die Navy hatte es uns zwar erlaubt und uns ein anderes Haus angeboten, aber wir mussten den Umzug selber machen. Obwohl wir gerade erst 3 Monate hier waren, haben sich ganz viele Leute/Kollegen angeboten uns zu helfen. Joel & ich haben einige Touren selber gemacht, aber den grossten Teil haben wir an einem Tag, mit all der Hilfe, geschafft. Unsere Moebel/main shipment war auch da und es wurde uns direct ins neue Haus geliefert.
Nun ging das Auspacken und Einsortieren los (und das in ein wesentlich kleineres Haus als wir in Japan & in San Diego hatten: “Prost Mahlzeit”).
Da das schwer ist mit zwei kleinen Kindern, ist Nicole’s Mutter fuer 3 Wochen gekommen und hat uns ausgeholfen. Vielen Dank nochmal fuer all’ deine Hilfe Mama/Inge!

Anfang September waren wir, das erste Mal nach ueber 6 Monaten, wieder komplett & ordentlich aingerichten …. perfekt fuer Sandra & Marcel’s Besuch. In der ersten Woche sind die Beiden rumgereist und haben sich Spanien angeguckt. Marcel ist dann wieder geflogen und Sandra ist noch eine Woche bei uns geblieben. Wir hatten eine wunderschoene Zeit zusammen.

Andrew hat an einem 4 Tages “Adventure Camp” auf dem Base mitgemacht, wo gebastelt, musiziert, Sport gemacht & Buecher vorgelesen wurden. Ihm hat es super viel Spass gemacht. Sonst geht es Andrew praechtig und er spricht mittlerweile ohne “Punkt & Komma” (mal Englisch und mal Deutsch…).
Letztens beim Abendessen hat Andrew ueber 45 Minuten einen Monolog gehalten. Das war sehr amuesant!
Wir haben es auch endlich geschafft ihn von dem “Schnulli” abzubekommen. Wir haben einen Vertrag mit ihm & der “Schnulli-Fee” gemacht, dass er den Schnulli der
Schnulli-Fee gibt und er dafuer ein Spielzeug erhaelt ….yeah! Er musste den Vertrag auch richtig unterschreiben und “toi, toi, toi” soweit hat es geklappt. Nun arbeiten wir daran ihn dazu zu kriegen, dass er auf die Toilette geht. Sein neustes Hobby ist LEGO, er kann stundenlang kleine Autos bauen.

Emily ist auch nicht wieder zu erkennen. Aus dem zierlichen kleinen Baby ist ein kleiner “Wonneproppen” geworden. Mittlerweile quitscht sie vor sich her, kann schon greifen und haelt ihren Kopf selbst. Sie lernt taeglich etwas dazu und ist ein sehr froehliches Baby. Wir sind sehr dankbar fuer unsere kleine Emily.

Ende August ist Joel fuer 5 Tage nach Deutschland (Landstuhl) zu einem Erfrischungsseminar geflogen. Sonst arbeitet Joel sehr viel (in der Notfallaufnahme & als Familienarzt). Einmal im Monat geht Joel zu einem “Poker-Maenner Abend” und er geht immer noch seinem Hobby nach (so wie es die Zeit zulaesst) und macht Familienvideos.

Nicole hat wieder Jemanden gefunden mit der sie Tennis spielen kann. Dann ist sie wieder dem Krankenhaus Ehefrauen Club “Oakleaf” beigetreten, wo sie schon viele neue nette Leute kennengelernt hat. Dann wird sie eine Frauengruppe “Mom Time” ins Leben rufen, die sich 2x/Monat treffen wird (um Erfahrungen auszutauschen und Spass zusammen zu haben). Hinzu darf ihre monatliche “Girls Game Night” nicht fehlen! ☺

Uns geht es gut und so langsam haben wir uns hier in Spanien eingelebt. Naechsten Monat machen wir eine Oktoberfest-Party bei uns und Andrew’s 3.Geburtstagsparty steht an. Wie ihr seht: langweilig wird uns nicht!

At the beginning of July Joel’s parents were able to come to see us and meet Emily for the first time. This visit was almost entirely about seeing the grandkids, plus a little time with us on the side ☺. They also got a little taste of Spanish culture with a visit to Cadiz, a Flamenco dinner and an Andalusian horse show. We all had a great time together.

After the Ahlgrims’ visit was over, the stress level really took off. It started with a move to another house on base due to an ant infestation. They were EVERYWHERE and we didn’t want to go through an intense fumigation with a newborn. The Navy let us move to another place on base, but they wouldn’t send a moving crew to do all the lifting, so that part was up to us. Fortunately our full household good shipment hadn’t arrived yet, so we only had about 1/3 of our stuff to move. Nicole & Joel made a few trips with the van back and forth, but the bulk of the work was done with help. Even though we’d only been here for 3 months, plenty of new friends and colleagues pitched in and got most of the stuff moved over from the old house to the new one in less than a day. About the same time the rest of our household goods arrived from Japan and were delivered directly to the new place.

Then began the huge task of unpacking, cleaning, sorting, and trying to get everything put away (in a much smaller house than we came from, and now with a new family member). This is a tough task in any case, but with two small children it is almost impossible, so Nicole’s mother came back for another 3 weeks to help out. We are really grateful for the help!

By September we’d been here for 6 months and were finally completely unpacked, moved in, and even had the house clean and neat… just in time for the visit of Sandra & Marcel. In their first weeks, they spend most of the time on the road seeing the sites. After Marcel returned home, Sandra stayed for another week with us and we all had a really good time together.

Andrew participated in a 4-day “Adventure Camp” here on base. He had a good time making crafts, music, playing games and listening to stories. Andrew is really doing great and talking up a storm. (which he can do in English or German). We recently enjoyed a dinner where he delivered an almost uninterrupted monolog for over 45 minutes! We are also proud to report that he is now “Schnulli-Free”. (No more pacifier) He made a formal, signed contract with the
“Schnulli Fairy” and while he slept, the Schnulli Fairy picked up the envelope containing his beloved pacifier and left some nice toys in its place. So far he has done well, although he was hoping there was a loophole in the contract the first couple of nights… Now on to the next challenge; Toilet training! Andrew’s favorite toy right now are LEGOS (which still belong to Daddy), and he spends hours making little cars. We have told him that once the diapers are gone, all of “Papa’s LEGOS” will become his.

Emily has also grown beyond all recognition. The sleepy little newborn has become a smiling, giggling, chubby little munchkin. She doesn’t cry too much any more, can grab her toys, and is working at holding her head up when she is on her belly. There is something new almost everyday and she is a very happy baby. We are thrilled with our little Emily.

At the end of August, Joel took off for a 5-day training course in Germany. Otherwise he stays very busy in the hospital between covering the ER as well as seeing clinic in Family Medicine. About once a month he tries to get together with some of the guys for a “Poker Night” and is otherwise still trying to work on the family movies.

Nicole has recently found a few new women to plan tennis with. Hopefully that will work out well. She has also gotten connect with the hospital’s
“Oakleaf club” (officer’s wives club) and has met a lot of nice folks. She is also trying to start a women’s group (MOPS-eque) called “Mom Time” that will meet twice a month. She would also like to get her famous monthly “Girls Game Night” established here. ☺

We are doing well and gradually feeling more and more at home here in Spain. Next month we will throw an Oktoberfest Party at our place and also celebrate Andrew’s 3rd birthday. It won’t be boring around here for quite a while.
