Der Alltag hat uns wieder / Back to normal

Mittlerweile sind
Nicole & Andrew ueber einen Monat zurueck in Japan und nach einigen Hindernissen (Erkaeltung & Virus) hat sie der Alltag wieder. Andrew war das erste Mal beim Zahnarzt und bis auf die eine Minute, wo der Zahnarzt in seinem Mund "rumgefuchtelt" hat, hat er es sogar sehr genossen. Denn er hat eine eigene Zahnbuerste & Aufkleber geschenkt bekommen.

Anfang Februar war Joel fuer 2 Wochen in San Antonio/Texas auf einer Konferenz. Die Konferenz hat ihm sehr viel gebracht, vor allem fuer seinen naechsten Job auf dem Schiff (fuer 6 Monate). Hinzu hatte er die Moeglichkeit sich mit unseren frueheren Nachbarn (Familie Thomas) aus Vista, Kalifornien, zu treffen, da sie nach Austin gezogen sind. Sie sind netterweise nach San Antonio gekommen (ca. 1 Std. Fahrt) und dort haben sie einen schoenen Tag zusammen verbracht.
Nicole & Andrew waren in den 2 Wochen ziemlich beschaeftigt. Sie sind zweimal die Woche zu "PT Tots"gegangen, was eine Art Gymnastik/Spielgruppe ist. Andrew blueht richtig darin auf. Selbst zu hause macht er einige Spiele/Bewegungen nach. Dann gehen sie einmal die Woche zu einer "Story Time" (Geschichtezeit) in der Buecherei. An den Tagen wo nichts geplant ist, trifft sich Andrew mit einigen seiner Freunde zu Spielnachmittagen zu hause oder auf dem Spielplatz. Somit sind Nicole & Andrew immer unterwegs ... langweilig wird es ihnen nicht.

Was kann Andrew schon alles:
Er haelt uns auf Trab, laeuft im Haus & draussen rum wie ein Wirbelwind, babbelt uns die Ohren voll, wenn das Haus gerade sauber ist, schafft er es doch tatsaechlich in kuerzester Zeit es auf den Kopf zu stellen und dreckig zu bekommen. Aber er kann auch ganz lieb sein und gibt uns Umarmungen, Kuesschen, macht "winke, winke", gibt uns
"die 5" (high 5), streckt die Hand raus wenn wir "Guten Tag" sagen, zeigt uns wie gross er ist, stoesst mit uns an (natuerlich nur mit seinem Becher mit Wasser) und sagt auch manchmal "Mama" & "Papa" (aber nur wenn er etwas will!!!) :-)
Dann kann er schon "Tick Tack" sagen, wenn er eine Uhr sieht, Bagger & Ball. Tja aber das war es auch schon im Bereich sprechen.
Mittlerweile moechte er immer wieder alleine mit dem Loeffel essen, zum Schrecken von Mama, denn danach sieht es aus wie ...! Ha ha ha!

Der Japanisch Amerikanische Ehefrauen-Club hat dieses Mal ein Strassenfest mit einigen Spielen organisiert. Unter anderem konnten wir mit selbstgebastelten Pistolen aus Staebchen & Gummibaender (super witzig) kleine Figuren, die auf Kartons stehen, abschiessen, dann mussten wir Papierfische fischen, Bogenschiessen, Ballontiere formen, Origami und noch vieles mehr machen. Dabei konnte man Punkte sammeln und am Ende gab es einen Preis. Wie immer haben sich die Japaner sehr viel Muehe mit allem gegeben und es hat sehr viel Spass gemacht.
Nicole hat sich auch an japanische Calligraphie versucht. Einige japanische Navy-Ehefrauen haben den amerikanischen Navy-Ehefrauen Calligraphie beigebracht. Nicole hatte sehr viel Spass, aber fand' es auch richtig schwer.


Nicole bekommt das erste Wochenende im Maerz von ihrem "kleinen Familienunternehmen" frei und geht mit Freunden in Nagano Skilaufen (es sind immerhin 11 Jahre her, dass sie Skilaufen war). Joel & Andrew machen sich ein Maennerwochenende. Das ist das erste Mal, dass Nicole fuer 2 Tage vom Andrew getrennt ist & Joel alleine auf Andrew aufpasst. Oje, mal schaun' wie das klappt!??!! :-)

Nicole & Andrew have now been back from Germany for over a month and gotten over a few bumps in the road along the way. Both were sick with colds and the "Noro-virus" but are now recovered and back to the usual routine. Andrew had his first trip to the dentist and except for a minute or so, seemed to really enjoy all the "messing around" in his mouth. At the end he was rewarded with his own little toothbrush and a sticker.

For the first 2 weeks of February, Joel was away to San Antonio, Texas attending a "Global Medicine" conference. It was a very practical topic and should be quite useful for his next assignment aboard ship. While he was there he had the chance to reconnect with some former neighbors (the Thomas family) from Vista, California. They have since moved out of the area and now live in Austin. They took the time to drive down to San Antonio and enjoy a day of sightseeing together.

Nicole & Andrew were very busy during this time. They have been attending "PT Tots" twice a week and enjoyed this gymnastics & playgroup. Andrew really lets loose and has a ball there. Even at home Andrew continues to show off the latest moves he has learned. He also enjoys attending "Story Time" once a week at the base library. On the days when there isn't something already on his calendar he gets together with his friends to play around the house or goes to the playground for fun on the swings or slide. This keeps Nicole & Andrew really busy. There is never a dull moment around here.

Now for the latest in Andrew's accomplishments: He keeps us on our toes, running around the house like a little tornado. He babbles without ceasing. As soon as he finds the house to be clean, he sets out with great resolve to get it nice and messy again without delay. He can also be very lovable and give out hugs & kisses, wave goodbye, give you a "high 5", and even offer his hand for a shake if you say "Guten Tag" to him. If you ask "How big is Andrew?" he will stretch as tall as he can. His latest trick is that he will "clink" his zippy cup to your glass for a toast! He can even say "Mama & Papa" but only when he really wants something! :-) If you point to your watch he will say "Tick-Tack", and he even can say "Ball" and "Bagger" (which is German for bulldozer). That's about it for his vocabulary so far. You can see how much Nicole has been working with him.

The Japanese American wives' club put on a "street fair" of sorts. Nicole played all kinds of games such as pistol shooting with rubber band guns made from chopsticks (very crazy). She tried to shoot small toy figures to win prizes, then went fishing for paper fish, practiced some archery, made balloon animals, practiced a little origami, and lots more. Through all these games she collected points to win a prize at the end. Like always, the Japanese ladies really put in a lot of effort and she had a great time. Nicole also recently tried her hand at Japanese calligraphy with the "Oakleaf Club" of wives from the hospital. A few members are Japanese wives(from the Japanese Navy) and taught the others. Nicole had a lot of fun, but found out that it is a lot harder than it looks.

Nicole will soon be getting a much deserved day off from "Mommy duty" in the first weekend of March. She will be going to Nagano for a ski trip! Since it has been more than ten years since the last time, she is very excited! Joel & Andrew will be "Home Alone" for the weekend. That will be the first time for Nicole to be away from Andrew for 2 whole days with only Joel to care for him. We'll see how that turns
