Tsukiji Fish Market, Imperial Palace & Odaiba

Letztes Wochenende (13.OKT 2007) waren wir auf dem "Tsukiji Fischmarkt" in Tokio.

Der Tsukiji-Fischmarkt (jap. 築地市場) im namensgebenden Stadtviertel Tsukiji des Tokioter Stadtbezirks Chūō gilt als größter Fischmarkt weltweit. Der Markt in Tsukiji ist Teil des zentralen Großmarkts, die Namensgebung des Marktes ist insofern irreführend, da in Tsukiji neben Fisch auch Gemüse und Früchte gehandelt werden.

Es war eine tolle Erfahrung. Wir haben noch nie solch' grosse Fische gesehen (vor allem der Thunfisch!). Joel fand' die Thunfischsaege ganz faszinierend ... seht selber. Mit Andrew war es ein wenig gefaehrlich, da so viele Autos rumgefahren sind und ganz zu schweigen von den ganzen Menschenmassen, deshalb haben wir ihn in einem Babyrucksack getragen, denn ein Kinderwagen waere nicht angebracht gewesen.
Um den Fischmarkt herum, gab es einige Fischgeschaefte und da sind wir auf diesen Obsthaendler gestossen. Wir haben noch nie so teures Obst gesehen (obwohl Nicole einmal schon eine Honigmelone fuer ca. YEN8000/EURO 50,- gesehen hat!!!).

Danach sind wir zum "Imperial Palace Garten" gefahren, wo die koenigliche Familie wohnt. Allerdings kommt man da natuerlich nicht hin, sondern nur in den Vorgarten, der aber auch sehr schoen ist.

Als naechstes stand "Odaiba' auf dem Programm. Odaiba (jap. お台場, auch Tokyo Teleport Town oder T3) ist ein beliebtes Unterhaltungs- und Einkaufsgebiet in der Bucht von Tokio, Japan.


Das Schoenste oder Interessanteste war: Megaweb, Ausstellungshalle des Autoherstellers Toyota. Wir sind mit einem komplett automatisch eingestellten Auto gefahren. Wir sassen nur im Auto haben den Ausblick genossen, alles andere hat das Auto selber gemacht...das war schon erschreckend. Dann haben wir die neusten Auto- Erfindungen gesehen. Also mal schaun was es wirklich in den naechsten 10 Jahren geben wird?!?
Nicole hat sich das erste Mal mit Skateboarding versucht...eigentlich hat es auch ganz gut geklappt...bzw. ist sie nicht hingefallen, das ist doch gut, oder?! ;-)

Naechste Woche ist Andrew's 1.Geburtstag (wie die Zeit vergeht!) - dann gibt es neue Bilder. Anbei ein Mini-Video von unserem "Boss" beim Tischfussball.

Last weekend (Oct 13th, 2007) we traveled up to Tokyo for a day of sightseeing. We started out at the Tsukiji Fish Market. Apparently it is the largest in the world and apart from fish, sells a lot of fruit and vegetables as well.

It was a great experience. We have never seen such huge fish before! (especially the giant tuna) Joel was particularly impressed with the Tuna saw. Look at the picture! It was a bit dangerous with Andrew, because there were hundreds of little mini-trucks and forklifts driving quite aggressively amongst the crowds of people, so we kept him in the baby carrier since a stroller would not be possible. Even though this is a wholesale market, you can still find some of those famously expensive “gift fruit” here, like the $80 cantalope.

After the market we went to visit the Imperial Palace Gardens. You can’t actually visit the Palace itself or the inner gardens, but the outer gardens are still nice, even though we are in the fall season now.

Next was the Odaiba district of Tokyo. It is basically a big entertainment center and shopping town. All very modern and pleasant but a bit over done. It is sort of like the shopping arcades in Caesar’s Palace or the Bellagio casinos in Las Vegas.

The best part was the “Megaweb”, which has a big exhibition area from Toyota. We were able to take a ride in some completely automatic cars. All you do is sit and enjoy the ride. The people that give you the orientation didn’t speak too much English, but it wasn’t exactly complicated. Basically, “Sit here and don’t touch anything”. It was a creepy experience watching the steering wheel turn itself. We were also able to take a look at some of the future design ideas and perhaps see what we’ll be driving in 10 years?!?

After that, we were strolling along a boardwalk outside and Nicole was able to try skateboarding for the first time. She did a decent job and didn’t even fall down.

Next week is Andrew’s 1st Birthday (how time flies!). There will be plenty of photos to see.
